KARIMNAGAR: TRS president and Karimnagar MP K. Chandrashekhar Rao has launched a scathing attack against Congress leaders for obstructing the participation of students in the TRS student wing meetings by threatening the college managements.

“We are peacefully conducting the meetings. You cannot suppress the movement with threatening. The Congress would be wiped out of the region and would not get deposits in the coming elections,” he remarked.

    Peaceful path

Addressing a mammoth TRS student wing meeting in Ambedkar stadium in Karimnagar town on Saturday, Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao pointed out that “the TRS is a fire and if you touch it you will be reduced to ashes.” Calling upon the students to participate in the Telangana Statehood movement during their spare time, he however cautioned them against taking to violence and asked them to adopt a peaceful path for achieving Telangana in a diplomatic manner.

“The Telangana statehood would be a reality only through political strategy”, he maintained. Flaying the State government for talking about the development of Telangana region, he said that the development of Telangana was the civil right and formation of separate State was its birth right.

He launched a scathing attack against the State government for completing the Yogi Vemana University and Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences of Kadapa district on a priority basis neglecting the Telangana and NIMS universities of the region. “Is this the development of Telangana region?” He demanded that the Congress Ministers take measures to complete Telangana and NIMS universities and show their sincerity.

    Strengthen government hospitals: TRS

    Etala Rajender

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, he alleged that the corporate hospitals are not providing post-operative care to patients after performing surgeries. He charged that the corporate hospitals were treating patients up to the ceiling limit of Rs. 2 lakh and are discharging them without providing complete treatment. He also charged that the private hospitals were collecting additional 25 per cent for the conduct of various tests from the poor patients, who approach them with Arogyasri health cards. He suggested that the government strengthen government hospitals by providing all modern medical equipments, adequate staff and doctors to treat all diseases, instead of encouraging private hospitals.

Coal workers need strong trade union, says KCR

SCCL owes a lot to coal workers: TRS chief

COAL politics: TRS legislators Etala Rajender and Koppula Eshwar campaigning for their trade union in the elections to the Singareni Collieries Company Limited union in Godavarikhani region on Wednesday.

KOTHAGUDEM: "Coal workers in the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) were in need of a strong trade union which could safeguard their interests and help improve their working conditions," said the TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday.

Addressing a series of public meetings in Manuguru and Kothagudem today, he said that the SCCL owed all its fortune to the hard work put in by the coal miners. But their lives were of no great worth for the management.

    Indifferent treatment

He said though the Singareni collieries Company had for long been doing exceptionally well unlike the coal companies in the north, the treatment meted out to Singareni coal workers was no different from others.

He questioned as to why they should be paid on par with the coal workers of the companies where the performance was plagued consistently by problems such as bad industrial relations as well as the influence of mafia dons.

This could be possible only with the representation of a strong trade union both at the area level and the company level. The Telangana Boggughani Karmika Sangham (TBKS) was prepared to shoulder the task, he said.

It could fight the management effectively on issues such as wages, working conditions and amenities.

There was no need for national unions, which were not up to the expectation to represent the company workers.

TRS floor leader Etala Rajender and Mr. Harish Rao criticised the government for claiming to be ‘farmer-friendly’ but.......

Implementation of G.O. 610 in appointment of judicial officials sought

Government accused of continuing to be callous towards farmers

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has cried hoarse about yet another ‘injustice’ meted out to the Telangana region by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy by giving key portfolios to people of other regions.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, TRS legislator T. Harish Rao regretted that unlike in the past when they had K.R. Suresh Reddy hailing from the region as Speaker, the privilege was taken away this time. Important portfolios like Roads and Buildings, Power and the like were given away to others and those allocated to those belonging to the region were ‘insignificant’ responsibilities.

Party’s general secretary Niranjan Reddy said that in the past five years of the Congress rule, not a single vacancy of the position of High Court judge was filled with a person hailing from Telangana. It was common a practice for the Chief Minister of a State, in consultation with the High Court, to finalise and recommend names for such positions and forward the list to the Supreme Court of India, he said urging Dr. Reddy to take up such an exercise at least now.

Also, Mr. Reddy demanded that G.O. 610 be implemented in letter and spirit when it came to appointment of judicial officials. There were several vacancies at the level of public prosecutors and government pleaders, he said.

TRS floor leader Etala Rajender and Mr. Harish Rao criticised the government for claiming to be ‘farmer-friendly’ but continuing to be callous towards ryots. They recalled that though rice procurement technically began on May 16 after the election process was over, it was yet to take off.

Farmers were virtually spending nights on the roads between their villages and procurement centres running from pillar to post to get officials to buy their paddy at Rs. 930, the MSP fixed. However, with two rains in between, discolouring had taken place and added to the moisture content for which Rs. 100 was being reduced and only Rs. 830 being paid.

Etala Rajender (TRS) hoped that Mr. Reddy would use his vast experience to conduct the proceedings efficiently.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy heaped praise on Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for his “distinct” leadership qualities and said “I am sure he will script a new chapter for the Assembly using these qualities.”

Felicitating Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy on his election as Speaker, in the Assembly on Thursday, the Chief Minister said he hoped that he would shape out as a guardian of democratic practices and envy to other States by conducting the proceedings in a good way.

He felt that the Speaker may not need the assistance from officers as he was thorough with rules, being a law graduate and having served as Government Chief Whip effectively till recently. Quoting Pandit Nehru, he said the Speaker always represented the House and its dignity.
    Tightrope walk

The Chief Minister, however, said giving equal opportunity to members by the Chair always depended on how they extended cooperation to him. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy might not act as rule-book Speaker or as a headmaster, though the conduct of proceedings was a tightrope walk, he added.

Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy said he was anguished that well-established conventions were not followed and the Leader of the Opposition, N. Chandrababu Naidu, did not even utter a word hailing his election. Stating that there would be full cooperation from the government to enable the Chair to act independently, he urged him not to yield to “blackmail or pressure.” Finance Minister K. Rosaiah, Health Minister D. Nagender, Roads & Building Minister G. Aruna Kumari, Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao also felicitated the new Speaker.

    R. Chandrasekhar Reddy (TDP) while congratulating Mr. Reddy assured that his party would cooperate in enhancing the prestige of the House. Etala Rajender (TRS) hoped that Mr. Reddy would use his vast experience to conduct the proceedings efficiently. MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi expressed confidence that he would discharge his responsibility with utmost impartiality and follow the high traditions set by his predecessors. G. Mallesh (CPI), G. Kishan Reddy (BJP), J. Ranga Reddy (CPI-M), Shobha Nagi Reddy (PR) and others spoke.

Vijayashanti said she and 10 other MLAs were in the party and they would strive to achieve a separate Telangana. “People gave a verdict in favour of the Congress and we abide by it. However, our goal of separate Telangana will continue,” she added.

The TRS floor leader in the Assembly, Mr Rajender warned of stringent action against a vernacular daily for spreading rumours against the TRS, including a split in the party.

The TRS leader dismissed allegations of former MP, Mr Ravindra Naik, and pointed out that those who broke the party and joined the Congress failed to win barring one candidate.
Referring to Mr Dileep Kumar’s proposal to float a new outfit, he said though he was denied an Assembly ticket in 2004, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao gave him key posts and finally made him an MLC. “Some disgruntled elements are trying to destroy the Telangana movement. They will not succeed,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, a rebel TRS leader, Mr Mahender Reddy, demanded the resignation of the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, and son Mr K.T, Rama Rao, for the debacle of the party.
